Here's my up-to-date list of completed books for the year thus far. As I've mentioned before, I like to set myself yearly reading goals. Last year's was 52 books for the year. This years I'm attempting to read 12 classics. We'll see if I make it.

Could you put which ones you'd strongly recommend to read?
I'm currently reading 2009's best american short stories (Alice Sebold was the editor). I picked up The Little Giant of Aberdeen Co. last night. I have The Help and The American Wife on hold to read. And I recently finished The Crying Tree, which started out great and then turned into a political agenda.
Well, I've read a lot of Jane Austen, as well as Jane Eyre this year. I also went for some more classics with Catcher in the Rye, Call of the Wild, Cry, the Beloved Country, and Their Eyes Were Watching God. Out of all of them, I liked Cry, the Beloved Country best. Oh, and I read Winesburg, Ohio (by Anderson), also on the classics list I found, although I'd never heard of this collection of short stories. It was interesting. Right now, I'm reading all Vietnam War literature -- novels, memoirs, poetry. That's my class, and it's a strange transition from Jane Austen.
Yes Kim, I'll add an edit with my top favorite reads for you to check out. And I read The Help last year; great read! Let me know abotu The Little Giant book, I've looked at that one before.
Lana, you've definitely beat me in the classics arena! Working at the libary I get sucked into all the good looking new books. :) I read Winesburg, Ohio for a short story circuit class in college. Don't remember what I thought about it.
Hmmm, your reading lists make me hide my face in shame. In my typical fashion I'm halfway through The Secret Life of Bees, Discipleship of the Mind, Along for the Ride, and 84 Charing Cross Road (yes because of you!). So, I can't remember the very small number of books I read earlier this year, but this is current. Along for the Ride is Sarah Dessen's most recent endeavor, and so far is much like all her others. Just as shallow, and just as much fun. :)
i would like to read "the Polysyllabic Spree"-- i think i started it at work once and it was good.:) i really liked "of Mice and Men" when I read that. what did you think of "castle waiting?" i've never read that one, but graphic novels can be fun to read. if you're interested in reading any more graphic novels you should definitely read Persepolis I & II and Maus I & II. both are based on true stories and very good. i'm still reading the journals of Sylvia Plath and greatly enjoying it. at work I've been reading a book about Simone de Beauvoir (sp?) and John Paul Sarte. pretty interesting so far.
Oh... I LOVED reading Ex Libris so much I passed it on to some other friends (for return of course)! Your list tops mine for volume this year... hope to get in some more before the summer is over.
I am reading children's literature mostly... trying to get through a Newberry award list.
